Kino Arsenal to Leave Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz

Independent Berlinale Sections to Move to Silent Green Kulturquartier

New Cinema to Open in 2026

Kino Arsenal, a renowned art-house cinema and film institute in Berlin, will be leaving its current location at the Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz at the end of 2024.

The institute will move to the Westhalle of the silent green Kulturquartier in 2026, where it will operate a new cinema, archive, and distribution service. The Berlinale sections Forum and Forum Expanded, which are curated by Kino Arsenal, will also move to the new location.

The move is part of a larger redevelopment of the Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz, which will see the building converted into a hotel and residential complex.

Kino Arsenal was founded in 1970 and has been operating at the Filmhaus am Potsdamer Platz since 1992. The institute is known for its programming of independent and experimental films, as well as its work in film preservation and distribution.

The move to the silent green Kulturquartier will provide Kino Arsenal with a larger and more modern space to operate. The new cinema will have two screens and a capacity of 250 seats.
