Christchurch: A City Reborn
10 Years After the Devastating Earthquake
Once known as a city scarred by disaster, Christchurch has undergone a remarkable transformation in the past decade.
On February 22, 2011, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Christchurch, causing widespread damage and claiming the lives of 185 people. In the aftermath, the city became synonymous with earthquake recovery.
But a decade later, Christchurch has emerged as a symbol of resilience and rebirth. The scars of the earthquake are still visible in some areas, but the city has been rebuilt with a renewed sense of purpose. New buildings have sprung up, and many of the damaged historic structures have been restored.
